William E. “Dr. Bill” Sterling, Jr., O.D.
Dr. Sterling has called Polk County home for almost 60 years. He served 3 years as an optometrist in the United State’s Air Force before returning home to Polk County. Dr. Sterling has cared for the eyes of people in Polk County since 1978 and has owned his own optometry practice on Havendale Boulevard since 1985. He loves what he does and has a dedicated office staff to help him meet the needs of his patients; therefore, he has no plans to retire any time soon.
Dr. Sterling is a fixture of the Auburndale community. Giving back to the community is his chief hobby. He has been an active member of the Auburndale Rotary Club and the Auburndale Chamber of Commerce since 1980. He was a founding member of both the Auburndale Main Street Redevelopment Association and the Auburndale Community Redevelopment Association (CRA). He has served as an advisory board member for the Mid-Florida Home Health Services, Inc. and the Citizen’s Bank Advisory Board. Currently, he is a City Commissioner in Auburndale and has 14 years of prior elected experience on the City Commission including 2 years as the Mayor of Auburndale. He was elected to the Auburndale High School Hall of Fame in 2007. He is a member of Gideon’s International and the Polk County Central Gideon Camp. He is a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Auburndale where he and his wife play handbells. He is a loving husband to his wife, Jo, a devoted dad to his daughter, Emily, and a great friend. In his spare time, Dr. Sterling enjoys gardening, traveling, talking to people, and drinking sweet tea.
